Penatron 4036 is a very rapid set, flexible, low viscosity urethane/polyurea specifically designed for the rapid repair of small, low-movement cracks or joints in asphalt or concrete pavement. Penatron 4036 is intended for quickly sealing and repairing not only minor, low-movement cracks, but also separations and potholes in asphalt or concrete pavement and rapidly returning the pavement back into service, allowing traffic over the repair in minutes. The low viscosity of this product allows it to quickly and easily penetrate the substrate cracks and fractures in asphalt, producing an excellent seal against industrial chemicals, fuels, water and other contaminants.
Unique Characteristics: 4036 is very low in viscosity, allowing the product to deeply penetrate and "micro-lock” into the asphalt, find and fill fine fractures, and seal the damaged area to prevent water intrusion and sub-base damage. 4036 is intended to be extremely fast setting, reducing working time, man hours and down-time. Traffic can resume in as little as 10-15 minutes.
Maintenance: 4036 is an excellent choice for use as a maintenance tool. Using this product to immediately repair/fill cracks in asphalt parking lots or other asphalt surfaces can extend the life of normal asphalt and reduce maintenance expenditures.

Preparation: Asphalt must have a minimum 30-day cure prior to application. The area must be dry. Clean the surface and remove all unsound asphalt, gravel, concrete, dust and debris. High pressure air blast usually produces enough velocity to clean a large crack.
Application: Penatron 4036 may be dispensed from duplex cartridges or applied via a plural component ASTC pump for large applications.
Fast Set – Low Viscosity 4036 is used with a large diameter, sand aggregate or ground rubber aggregate (recycled material) pre-placed in the repair area or backfilled into wet product in the crack. The product will penetrate #12 grit sand, making a sound structural repair. With the use of ground rubber, the repair is more flexible. Moving cracks and large cracks should be repaired with 4037 with rubber. Set time is 50 seconds to 2 minutes, temperature dependent. Viscosity is 70 cps, producing excellent "wet-out" and penetration of aggregate, substrate cracks, and other select sand fillers. Fill cracks when they are cool and "open.”
Clean the area of debris and contaminants that would act as a bond breaker, e.g. oils, loose materials, dirt, rubber, etc. Expose clean, rough, and non-contaminated asphalt. Make sure the area is dry.
Deep cracks – large #12, sand in layer of about ¾ to 1 inch at the bottom and work up filling/flooding each layer with the product. Push the static mixing wand (use static mixer as supplied by ASTC only) directly into each sand layer and flood. Immediately apply additional sand and continue
flooding each sand layer to assure complete saturation of the sand or pea-gravel/sand mixture.
Alternate application - First apply product, then add sand into the product, followed by more product and sand. Repeat the steps in layers until reaching the finished grade.
Note: sand reduces elongation and potential for movement of the crack. This application should be done when the crack is open and cool so that the structural repair will be compressed when temperatures increase.
Finished grade - Fill the crack with the product up to the finished grade. Do not leave below finished grade. Bring final layer/application to finished grade and broadcast sand over the surface of the wet product as it is filled into the crack area. Use a trowel edge to even the fill to grade as needed. Remove excess material before it sets for a smooth finish. Allow product to set about 10-15 minutes or until physical properties develop enough to support traffic.
Exterior Joints – Concrete: 4036 may be used as an exterior control joint filler. Use via the Little Squirt application pump from ASTC. Use neat without sand for joint applications. Note: always apply a joint product when the joint is "open” and cool. Moving joints should use a softer product, 4037.
Limitations: Always MIX Part B before use in 10 gallon kits or in cartridges.
Do not use on wet surfaces or expose part A to moisture. This product is moisture sensitive and should not be applied to wet surfaces. Damp areas are primed using Penatron 6012-2F moisture tolerant epoxy fast set primer. Use product neat where slight movement is needed.
Hot conditions: the product will set considerably faster in hot conditions and slower in cold conditions. Do not use product that is hot. Keep out of direct sunlight and store the product kits on wood pallets at room temperature. Pre-condition product for use at cold temperatures or slow product set time to keep product cold.
Packaging: Duplex Cartridge Kits, 21 ounce duplex cartridge cases, 10 gallon kits and 110 gallon drum kits.
Curing Time: 10-15 minutes for traffic and 20-30 strength development, final cure 24 hours.
